This semester I was granted the wonderful opportunity to take up an internship and study in Washington D.C. through the Lutheran College Washington Semester program. As a Dance major, I was looking for relevant work experience and an opportunity to explore world of dance outside of Muhlenberg’s campus. When most people think of DC, politics is typically the first word that comes to mind. Therefore, it was no suprise when I told my friends and family I was going to be completing a dance internship in DC that I was met with some confused responses. Some people asked me why I didn’t choose to study dance at Accademia dell’Arte in Italy, but I assured them that DC would offer everything I wanted and more. Home to the Kennedy Center, The Washington Ballet, and numerous regional theatre companies, Washington DC is a city with a thriving arts scene and vibrant creative community. As the first LCWS student to complete an internship in the dance field, I am thrilled to pave the way for others to recognize DC’s artistic potential.
